Matthew Stafford is the Perfect Fit for the Patriots

After a disappointing 2020 campaign, it’s time to look towards the off-season for Patriot fans.

Quarterback is the biggest question mark for the Patriots going into 2021 and Matthew Stafford should be the answer.

The man has accomplished so much on a Detroit team that never seemed to care about giving him weapons.

He ranks 17th all time in career TD passes ahead of Joe Montana, he has the most passing yards through 160 starts in the NFL (43,901), and the 8th most touchdown passes through 160 starts (274).

Stafford has been able to make something out of nothing in Detroit, but recently the team decided that they would part ways and accommodate his request for a trade after 12 seasons.

The Patriots would get a stellar passer with great leadership skills right off the bat and Stafford would finally get some stability with a coach and a team that is actually invested in him.

At this point, you might be asking, “Why not go for Deshaun Watson? He’s younger and arguably better?”

The biggest benefit to getting Stafford is cost. With Watson, you are looking at a trade value that sits around 3 first-round picks. With Stafford, you could potentially get him for a 2nd-round pick and a player.

If the Patriots traded for Watson, they would effectively be shorting themselves for the future. Sure, we get a generational QB, but what about a true number 1 wide receiver? Or a middle linebacker to lead the defense? What about the gap Joe Thuney will leave if we can’t re-sign him?

As a fan, you have to look at this team and say the Patriots are more than a QB away from winning a Super Bowl. Buying into Watson, hurts the team. With Stafford, we would have the ability to draft a young QB for him to groom and compete with in a later round. Names like Kellen Mond or Sam Ehlinger stand out as perfect succesor to Stafford after a few years with the team.

Matthew Stafford, come to New England. It’s slightly warmer than Michigan and the fans are much louder. We want you.

Juju Just Danced On His Own Grave

Throughout the 2020 NFL Season, it’s safe to say Juju Smith-Schuster has turned heads a number of times. From becoming a Tik Tok sensation to dancing on Teams’ logos and getting absolutely leveled for it, Smith-Schuster has seen his actions come back to haunt him (and team) more than once. With his latest choice of words, we can’t help but wonder if Smith-Schuster may have just dug his own grave, and then danced on it.

Speaking with the Associated Press before Sunday’s postseason matchup, Juju stated “I think they’re still the same Browns teams I play every year,… I think they’re nameless gray faces. They have a couple good players on their team, but at the end of the day, I don’t know. The Browns is the Browns.” Bold choice of words from a player who hasn’t done much other than get completely embarrassed multiple times on the field.

Smith-Schuster and the Pittsburgh Steelers made their way to 11-0 before dropping three losses in a row and finishing the season 12-4. Their latest loss was handed to them by the Cleveland Browns who made their final push for the playoffs. Granted the Browns beat a Steelers team who was resting their starters, but still the Browns have clearly made a decent case for themselves to not be taking lightly.

Smith-Schuster shouldn’t be much of a factor this Sunday either, after not having a single game with over 100 receiving yards and tallying only 9 touchdowns on the season. With this being said, I think it goes for all of us here at BOTA that we hope this adds fuel to the fire and provides some very strong motivation for the Browns. Here’s to hoping Juju can eat his words once more this season and the Steelers get their ass handed to them by the Browns. Let’s see what these “gray faces” Browns can do to a Steelers team that is nowhere close to as talented as originally thought.

Better Late Than Never; My Thoughts On Cam Newton

With the New England Patriots signing Cam Newton, most fans were excited for the addition of a “veteran” Quarterback joining the team. On the other side was me; cringing with the fact that my two worst nightmares came true. First was of course Tom Brady leaving, second was the Pats bringing in Cam Newton as a replacement. However, I’ve had some time to sit and think and I’m here to express my opinions on the matter and that Cam Newton will be either a boom or a bust candidate for the Patriots.

I’ve been pretty vocal with my thoughts on Cam Newton in the past, and I still stand by my arguments to an extent, but I do feel if handled the right way, Cam Newton can be a great addition to the Patriots. In previous years, offenses revolved around Newton. Newton saw himself as a one-man show and that was that. Numerous times, I was disgusted at the fact that receivers would be wide-open down field and yet Newton still ran the ball himself. Granted my bias comes from the fact that I’m not a big running-qb man, but I still feel strongly as though the Panthers offense wasn’t clockwork, it was what Newton felt like doing on that play. I think that led to the arrogance that I personally despised out of Newton. I hated him on the field, and more off the field. I thought he was a cocky douchebag who thought the world revolves around him. However, on the Patriots, none of what I mentioned above will stand.

On the Patriots, “Do Your Job” isn’t just a motto, it’s the way of life and how the Patriots achieve so much success. The Patriots work around every single player on that offense and make it all connect perfectly for what we’ve known for decades. Bill Bellichick and Josh Mcdaniels have certain ways about them that create these factors. With Newton on the team, this shouldn’t change anything, and I believe that’s why we see Newton being goal driven and so optimistic to work with the Patriots this season.

On the Patriots, Newton knows that his personal success means nothing. What makes the Patriots stick out is the teamwork. Now obviously I know every team of course has strong teamwork, but yet again and again the Patriots show that theirs is like no other. The Pats make success of utilizing every single position on the field. That means utilizing every receiver, tight end, lineman, and even the quarterback. What this means is that, if Cam Newton comes into the Patriots offense knowing that he has so many options to choose from every play, he could be a huge success. Newton can change the whole scheme of that offense to turn around him and ruin what was once an amazing amount of success. What Newton can also do, is tweak the offense and form with it, creating a scary scenario of a huge quarterback with great running sense, observational awareness, and the ability to spread the field like no other. Let’s hope it’s the latter.

I feel strongly as though Newton feels he has something to prove. With a contract that isn’t worth much, and the thought of knowing that he has to work harder than ever before, Cam Newton May be able to improve his biggest weaknesses and shine like never before. Given the fact that The patriots have now lost crucial lineman for the season, I believe this season will be the true groundbreaking year for Newton as he shows the true potential he holds to carry a team to victory, or to be left out to dry.

Cancel The MLB Season

The MLB is in absolute shambles as it faces a Covid-19 outbreak among the Marlins franchise and the consequences thereof. Not to say I told you so MLB, but I totally fucking told you so. If anyone saw this coming, other than me, it should’ve been Rob Manfred and the fact of the matter is, the MLB should have never started to begin with.

The Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies are on close watch as the Marlins gain a total of 17 positive Covid cases since their series with the Phillies.

What’s a better way to spread a virus than sports teams. They all share the same sidelines, dugout, bench. It’s stupid to even think that any sports league could be safe enough from this. I mean for Christ sake we were forced into lockdown for months until this virus let up a little. We finally get a little freedom and all sports shove play into action with so-called “safety measures”. What possible safety measures can protect full teams and leagues from a pandemic level virus?

Masks in the locker rooms? Full lockdown and bubbles for all players and personnel? Continuous checks and testing? I can promise you it all sounds great but it doesn’t work. It just doesn’t work. Do you honestly expect leagues full of multi-million dollar players to stay inside their hotel rooms? Do you honestly expect players to walk up to home plate with no mask on, then be told to wear one three minutes later. It’s all impossible to keep track of 24/7. It’s just not possible to monitor every player at every second.

You can’t use players as guinea pigs for entertainment. It’s not right and even though many still do choose to play, I believe we will keep seeing more and more start to opt out with the ongoing concerns. Every sport that has started back up has had players with Covid. It’s asinine to believe that players, personnel, and staff are just magically protected and constantly monitored. All it takes is one person infected with the virus to pass it on to multiple teams.

What’s more is the MLB is basically the canary in the coal mine. They were the sport to come out and show that they could still play even with the virus still posing a legit threat around the country. But with the Miami Marlins outbreak, it’s safe to say that sports will not work. What we will continue to see is weeks of games, followed by weeks of postponement once the virus hits multiple teams. Every team playing is susceptible every series, and this is in the best interest of absolutely NO ONE. The season needs to be canceled now, and save the MLB for good.

The Marlins franchise have 17 total positive cases so far. The whole team basically has it and you have to expect this to happen multiple times throughout the shortened season unless the season is cancelled. It is not worth the risk to the MLB. Even with the best medical care, there’s no way to say how each player handles the virus. The MLB is solely responsible for every player or staff member that gets Covid-19. Why even risk it at this point.

With Manfred claiming he doesn’t think the outbreak on the Marlins will affect the Philadelphia Phillies (who the Marlins just faced a 3-game series against) or the league itself, he is an idiot. The virus will keep spreading. Everyone just watched the season start last week, and we already have our first outbreak in the MLB before 5 games have even been played. The MLB just played itself so bad that if this isn’t fixed fast, the MLB will not only become a laughingstock, but a disgrace all together. With the best interests of all contact sports in mind, this year needs to be postponed. No sports and let the virus play itself out. Fix this now.

The One BIG Shining Issue with the Sports “Bubble”

We are just around the corner from the return of sports and I can’t wait. I went from a desolate desert of dumb re-runs to having my brain force fed like a fat kid eating pudding.

Weird mental imagery, sorry, but sports are back! Which is great for us as fans, but what about players? Some have already opted out (like the entire Nets starting 5), but others are ready to go!

There’s just one problem. One big shining issue.

The players are locked into a hotel California type of deal where they can’t leave except to practice and play. Most leagues will be in this bubble for a couple of months. With limited contact from family members, including significant others.

Do you understand that I’m getting at yet? No? Okay, if you aren’t 18 or are easily set off by random people on the Internet please turn around and read any of my other articles or look at the kitten below.

Okay, for those of you that are left, hi! How are you? Good? That’s good!

Let’s be honest here guys I’m going to put this simply, we be horny. We aren’t even athletes, athletes are notorious for getting in trouble with sex scandals and cheating. What exactly is preventing them from going out in Florida and having some fun?

These leagues are begging the athletes to break the bubble and go out. So, what’s the solution?

I see two paths, you can either claim ignorance and ban players for every minor “incident.” Boring. The James path is better for the fans.

I say, tighten up security, lock that shit up like Fort Knox. The players will get pent up frustration because of this, tell the refs to ease up on personal fouls and let the athletes go at it.

Sounds backwards, but I want more basketball fights, sorry hockey but y’all know how to fight. I want some bad punches from basketball stars. Throw Mark Cuban in there with a steel chair and you’ve got pure entertainment.

You’re welcome America.

Should Baseball Return?

At the moment, the MLB is in shambles but is set to return July 1st. At this point, it has me wondering if it’s even worth it to bring baseball back. We’re already close to halfway through what would have been a season, yet instead of a season, tensions and pay cuts are the only statistics on the rise.

We have the MLBPA players union claiming the players don’t want to play unless they get paid a substantial amount, the MLB going back and forth on their offers, and commissioner Rob Manfred insisting a season will happen. Now with a supposed season underway, what do we expect of games, the pandemic, and many players in confined areas.

Shared from ESPN on how the upcoming season is proposed to take place.

By the time we see a season underway it will either be too small of a season for anyone to care, players unsatisfied due to salary cuts, or some other bogus reasons. As much as we all want baseball back, I think it’s safe to say a season at this point is a waste. If there is nothing to gain from a partial season, I truthfully don’t see anyone giving a shit about the game itself, leaving less fans, viewers, and money coming in. What could be a partial season could also be a horrific downfall to the game of baseball.

The MLB has two options now. Either rush the season back as planned and accept the consequences that may arise, or cancel the season and pay everyone accordingly. Of course whichever path is chosen, money and fans will be lost, but if a season is resurrected as is currently scheduled, the MLB needs to hope and pray for the same competitiveness as prior seasons. If Manfred waits any longer, significant problems can arise that will keep delaying and cause more turmoil amongst the MLB.

With where the MLB stands right now, the best route the MLB has is to not have a season this year. Let this fluke run it’s course and pick back up next year as a strong, competitive, yet respected organization. The risks that come with having a season this year may be the downfall of what was once the greatest sport in America.

Andy Dalton Thoughts 101

Hello good and glorious BOTA World! For having no sports currently going on the NFL has been a hotspot for the recent draft, trades, big free agent signings, and much more but I thought I would chime in with a little Andy Dalton talk.

Disclaimer here to start that I am not a Andy Dalton fan nor am I a Cowboys fan (thank you god for blessing me with this gift), but nonetheless, our fiery Dalton should be the starter for the Cowboys for a few reasons.

First and foremost, Dalton was paid before Dak Prescott… for a sixteenth of what Prescott is asking. For making four decent throws a year and handing the ball off to Ezekiel Elliot most the time, Dak is asking for a hell of a lot from the Cowboys to still barely make the playoffs. So why should they bother? Use Dalton and get the most out of the signing. Sure Dalton doesn’t have the best stats in the league, but was he ever really given a chance? Dalton was placed right in the shit-hole the minute he stepped into the league. As the Bengals fell further and further into the abyss, Dalton was there riding the wave as that was all that could be done. And then the Bengals cut him out like it was all his fault. Now he has options, he has multiple receivers to throw to, an above average line to protect him, and a top-tier running back. Give the kid a chance and watch the money-grabber Dak crawl back realizing he isn’t worth $40 million per year.

Two, DALTON AND HIS RED-FIRE HAIR IN AN ICE-BLUE JERSEY WOULD BE UNREAL. We will see a whole new side of Dalton as fire and ice battle each other to see who conquers the fate of destiny. Dalton and his hair will be fuming while the Cowboy’s ice-blue jerseys will be the ultimate test of who rises to the top. Every game will be a test of Dalton’s strength. Will he let the fuming fire rage on or will the blue keep him cam and collected. We may never know.

Three. Fuck Dak. I may be biased but let’s be honest. Dak is a subpar quarterback at best and deserves to be paid like one. I can’t stand these players in the NFL now who just keep reaching and reaching for as much money as humanly possible to be paid just so they can “top the charts” and be the highest paid player. Dak has proven to the Cowboys and the NFL again and again that he is nothing without Zeke and the structure that Zeke brings to the team. Dak is a mere pawn and knows it, but is exploiting it to the fullest just for a payday.

All in all, (after my crazy rant) I do hope Dalton gets a chance. I have no reason to dislike nor like the man so give him a chance. Dak is also a smart man in the sense where he knows he has the Cowboys in his palm and I truly believe the Cowboys will fall to his will and pay him the ridiculous amount he wants. And if that happens, all I can say is congrats to Jerry Jones, you just got played by the worst player on that team.

Jalen Hurts is in a Better Position Than You Think

I’ll be the first person to admit this. I did not think Hurts would end up in Philly. However, it was a weird draft for QBs ( looking at you Jordan Love and Jake Fromm).

I’ve had some time to digest Phillys decision and it’s the best for both sides. Jalen will be a starter, just not in Philly.

They keep saying how they will use him like a Taysom Hill type of player, which discredits how talented he is. I don’t buy that for a second. The Eagles front office realizes that they have a very talented starter. They also see that he has a history of injuries.

Give Jalen some time to work under Wentz and learn and he will grow into his full potential and when Wentz inevitably goes down, Jalen can step into the light. Push them as far as he can while their starter heals.

I can hear it now, the media roaring about a starter controversy. “Who does Peterson start?” Cant wait for that story line to fill my news feed. I’ll spoil the ending for you. They will choose Carson because he is a refined passer and trade Jalen for some draft capital.

For the record, I don’t think that’s the right move. I think Hurts will be a phenomenal QB in the NFL, but they know how good Wentz can be.

Of course, this is all speculation and Hurts could end up buried for years and become the next Jimmy G in San Francisco, but I’ll tel you now, Hurts will be in the MVP conversation in 2 years.

Cass Money Chronicles: The Best Scenario For The Red Sox

What up BOTA World! Hope your quarantine is treating you all well. About two weeks into my quarantine and all I can say is I’ve gone completely insane, learned how much I hate Madden 20, gained at least 50lbs, and so much more negative news. But with sports still being postponed it’s time we brought up the best option for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are currently a train wreck and with the current state of sports, the best possible option for the Sox is that the season gets cancelled.

Imagine that, the Red Sox could bypass this whole cluster-fuck by just not playing! GENIUS! Hire me to your front office dammit! But in all reality, it really is the best case scenario for the team. Let this season go, get Sale back next year, possibly Mookie, possibly a reputable manager, and skip right over the rebuilding process into next season.

It’s honestly music to my ears. Why face your shitty problems right now when you can just let Coronavirus do it for you and postpone all your problems which may magically disappear? I’m in and you should be too.

Boston Is Collapsing

Boston fans, you have had a rough 2020 so far. Not only has Coronavirus shut down everything, the teams you hold near and dear to your heart are falling apart.

It all started with Mookie. Ohh Mookie. You were a victim of baseballs biggest hard decision. Do you keep the top three MLB talent and pay him what he wants? Or trade him to a NL rival? The Sox picked the later and it hurt.

Then we lost a fan favorite. Poor Brock Holt. We allowed him to walk and he signed with Milwaukee (do you know how many tries it took me to spell that? Too many). Brock was a great clubhouse guy and his son griff stoke the show on Instagram. Now he’s gone. It couldn’t get any worse.

Well it did and screw you for jinxing it. Corona virus came and said “Wuhan clan ain’t nothing to fuck with.”

Corona virus shut down every major sport from the NBA (where the Celtics has a chance to win it all), to the NHL (where the Bruins probably were going to win it all). We lost March Madness and all of it’s gambling glory.

Our March was empty so far, but there was a hope.

Yes, I get to be Luke in poster.

NFL FREE AGENCY. It was set to be a wild ride. We were all anxiously waiting for Tom’s massive decision. Some of us…(Chris) thought he was staying in New England.

I remember the exact moment. I woke up to the news. All I heard was a million Dunks iced Extra Extra‘s hitting the floor. Gallons of sweet disgusting coffee gone as the man who led the patriots to 6 championships left for Tampa Bay.

Side note: if you think about it. I’m like the Tom Brady Anti-Christ. Anti-Brady. I moved from Tampa back to Boston and Brady did the opposite. I eat strawberries he doesn’t. I’m just saying, the writing is on the wall.

He left the fans devastated, but things could only go up…right?

WRONG! HA! Idiot.

Chris Sale makes the tough decision to get Tommy John essentially removing him from this season and some of the next.

The hits just keep coming. It’s really not fair. I know I know, I’m the worst Boston fan of all time, but I am a Boston fan. This stuff affects me too! Just like not as much as some people….Chris. The only real way to wrap this all up is with something all the kids are saying. Oof. Big Oof.
