Draft Diamonds: Hunter Long

This tight end class is tilted by the strong play of Kyle Pitts, but there are plenty of strong tight ends in this class and my favorite is a home town hero (New Hampshire counts as Boston don’t question it) Hunter Long.

Hunter Long is a lot of human. He stands in at 6’5 254 lean and has been a similar size since high school, but was under recruited and ended up finding his stride at Boston College.

Long’s big play ability has been on display every year at BC, but his best asset is his hands. He led the NCAA in receptions (57) and was top 5 in yards for TEs (685)

Pros

+ Big Play Ability

+ Size

+ Great Hands

+strong Blocker

Cons

-Needs to refine Route running

-I’m not kidding, this kid is a sleeper.

Projection

2nd round pick

Best Fits

•New England

•Pittsburg

•Texans

•Jets

Hunter is a strong Tight End that is going to go under the radar, but will be a starter on most NFL teams. He provides the perfect balance of catching ability with strong blocking that can overwhelm the best edge defenders. Hunter is about to make some fans very happy.

Matthew Stafford has Been Traded to the Rams and What it Means for Deshaun Watson

I’ll be the first to say, I didn’t think it was going to happen this quick and for this much.

Matthew Stafford is a 34-year old QB. The Rams valued him at 2 first round picks, a third round pick, and Jared Goff.

I thought one first round pick was enough for the 34-year old starter, but here we are.

Does Stafford really make the Rams a contender? Does this move change anything in LA? I’m inclined to say no, but I’m not a GM.

They need one more great WR and some offensive line help before I’m willing to put them back in the Bowl.

This brings us to the biggest QB name still available, Deshaun Watson.

If I’m Nick Casiero, I LOVE this. It gets me rock hard.

If a guy who has never won a playoff game is worth basically what everyone assumed Watson is worth, IMAGINE WHAT THEY CAN GET FOR DESHAUN NOW.

Minimum asking price now, three first round picks and a star, that’s just a fact.

Draft Diamonds: Kellen Mond

Kellen Mond is the most slept on QB in this draft class. Mond, a 4-year starter at Texas A&M, has had projections ranging from Day 2 to day 3; but I’m telling you right now, he is the future of the NFL.

Mond took the world by storm when he won the starting job his freshman year. He was able to start each season after that with massive expectations. In 2019, His yards dropped significantly and people started to doubt as A&M finished outside of the top 25. His 2020 was the crowning year for Mond he threw for over 2,000 yards, 19 TDs and only 3 INTs.

Positives

+ Good Size

+ Strong Runner

+ Decent arm strength

+ Works well through the moderate range of yards

Negatives

– Bad pocket awareness

– Questionable throws

– Needs consistant big game ability

When I look at Mond I see a wealth of potential. I wouldn’t say he’s a day 1 starter, but that’s not a knock against him. He needs a lot more time to develop.

Best fits

•Patriots

•Bears

•Steelers

The biggest need for anyone thinking of drafting Mond is getting a veteran to groom him and help him develop. There is no doubt in my mind the Kellen Mond can and will be a starter in the NFL, just not right away. A team that trades for Stafford could also benefit from drafting Mond to become a project. The future is bright for this young QB.

Trey Songz Was Arrested Last Night at the AFC Championship

Bro, he’s 36? Dudes handsome as hell.

A video was released by TMZ that shows Trey Songz get in a physical altercation (that’s what smart people call a fight) with police as they attempt to arrest him for undisclosed reasons.

You can hear people that are in his entourage saying things like “Don’t do it Trey” and “Do you want to lose your job over this?”

That leads me to believe that the Police officer may have overreacted, but we really don’t know because of the video.

That being said, punching an officer and putting him in a rear naked choke hold isn’t the best practice, but we don’t know the story.

I can’t imagine too much happened at a football game. I worked at a stadium people get drunk and fight all the time. Hell, people stay sober and fight. As Americans we just wanna fight.

I will update this blog with information as it comes out. Or I’ll forget and answer for it later. It’s really a 50/50.

Matthew Stafford is the Perfect Fit for the Patriots

After a disappointing 2020 campaign, it’s time to look towards the off-season for Patriot fans.

Quarterback is the biggest question mark for the Patriots going into 2021 and Matthew Stafford should be the answer.

The man has accomplished so much on a Detroit team that never seemed to care about giving him weapons.

He ranks 17th all time in career TD passes ahead of Joe Montana, he has the most passing yards through 160 starts in the NFL (43,901), and the 8th most touchdown passes through 160 starts (274).

Stafford has been able to make something out of nothing in Detroit, but recently the team decided that they would part ways and accommodate his request for a trade after 12 seasons.

The Patriots would get a stellar passer with great leadership skills right off the bat and Stafford would finally get some stability with a coach and a team that is actually invested in him.

At this point, you might be asking, “Why not go for Deshaun Watson? He’s younger and arguably better?”

The biggest benefit to getting Stafford is cost. With Watson, you are looking at a trade value that sits around 3 first-round picks. With Stafford, you could potentially get him for a 2nd-round pick and a player.

If the Patriots traded for Watson, they would effectively be shorting themselves for the future. Sure, we get a generational QB, but what about a true number 1 wide receiver? Or a middle linebacker to lead the defense? What about the gap Joe Thuney will leave if we can’t re-sign him?

As a fan, you have to look at this team and say the Patriots are more than a QB away from winning a Super Bowl. Buying into Watson, hurts the team. With Stafford, we would have the ability to draft a young QB for him to groom and compete with in a later round. Names like Kellen Mond or Sam Ehlinger stand out as perfect succesor to Stafford after a few years with the team.

Matthew Stafford, come to New England. It’s slightly warmer than Michigan and the fans are much louder. We want you.
