It was announced that Manchester United will forgive a combined £130,000 ( Roughly $141,670) of loan payments from smaller clubs. Specifically, Hearts, Bolton, and Burton Albion.
For all of our fans who don’t know what a loan is in soccer terms. A loan is basically a player rental. ManU agreed to send a player to these teams for a certain amount of time. In exchange, the team would pay them an agreed sum.
Overall, it’s a great way for smaller clubs to get players that large clubs don’t necessarily need for short term progress.
Full disclosure, I am a Liverpool fan I have been since I was 17. I have also recently become a Hibernian fan after a trip to Edinburgh. So, I have strong feelings towards Manchester United and Hearts.
COVID 19 has hit a ton of clubs and teams hard, but it has hit small teams even harder. It’s great to see a major club support competition. After all, you can’t have a rivalry if there isn’t a rival to compete with. I love the move by Manchester United.
