Thursday Night Thoughts: Can Jared Goff Find His Stride against the ‘Hawks?

Jared Goff’s performance in Super Bowl was anything but Super. He ended the night 19 of 38 with 229 yards, no touchdowns, and a backbreaking interception in the fourth quarter.

Wow has Jared Goff looked like absolute dog bleep through the first 4 games of the season. He has 6 picks through 4 games. That’s half of what he had last year, and one less than he had two and three seasons ago. Yes, I know he also has 6 touchdowns, but a 1:1 touchdown to interception ratio is nowhere near what a former first overall pick should be. Now, I know what you’re going to say: “But Zack, the Rams are 3-1, and their defense let up 55 points to the Bucs last game, so they really should be 4-0”. Guys, they WOULD be 4-0 if Goff doesn’t throw 3 pics against a Todd Bowels led Bucs defense. Did I mention he also lost a fumble, third one in as many weeks?TODD BOWELS guys, the same man that coached the jets for 4 miserable years, and ended with a 24-40 record. Yeah, that guy.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the guy. I found that Rams team to be somewhat likable last year. But when it came time for the Big Game, Goff became a shell. He let himself become Sean McVay’s puppet, which worked right up until that game. Once the 15 second mark hit on the play clock, he was lost. The Patriots defense was able to get after him from the first snap, and was in his head all night. I don’t think he’s been able to get out of his own head since that crushing loss last year. It’s apparent, as he is sporting a passer rating 82.9. Yuck. If the Rams realistically want to make a run this postseason, they need JARED Goff, not SCARE-ed Goff. This game tonight could be where he finds his stride and moves on from that Superbowl loss.

Tonight, his 3-1 Rams will face off against the 3-1 Seahawks. This will be Goff’s first real test inside his division. I don’t think he’s up to snuff this week. Goff has just been stuck inside his head, which is really getting in his way. I think the Seahawks will take care of business at home 31-24, and I wholeheartedly think Wilson will outplay Goff in this matchup of NFC contenders.
